On August 23d, 2014 an environment-protecting, enlightening and cleaning action ‘Baikal Clean Coast’ was held by Gremyachinsk settlement (Pribaikalsky District, Republic of Buryatia). It was organized by Lake Baikal Protection Fund, All Russian Society for Nature Preservation (branches in Buryatia Republic and Saint-Petersburg); projects ‘Preserve Baikal’ and ‘Let’s Do it Together’. The action was held with the aim of popularizing ecological knowledge and skills, initiating cleaning and enlightening activity with involvement of volunteers, guests and participants in the III International Forum ‘Baikal Dialogue’.
The organizers made zoning of the territory,
instructed the participants in the action on waste collection
technology and necessary safety measures. After that the ‘green’
raid was made at the Goryachinsk beachfront – the
participants cleaned the territory and afterwards talked with the
tourists on the issues of nature preservation, anti-fire safety
measures and nature cleanness maintenance.
Waste was gathered separately (in 2 categories): secondary
resources that are to be processed (plastic, metals, glass) and
other debris. While enlightening talks were held information
leaflets were also distributed. In the conclusion of the
action the Chairman of Lake Baikal Protection Fund M. Slipenchuk
and the Fund’s Vice-President B.Tsyrenov opened several information
and agitational improvised billboards – their topic was ‘green’
attitude to nature, fire safety measures, keeping nature
territories clean and tidy.
